Xunantunich & Barton Creek

Embark on an unforgettable journey through history with a scenic 20-minute drive to the remarkable Mayan site of Xunantunich. The adventure begins with a charming crossing of the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry, followed by a picturesque drive through the lush landscape to the site entrance.

Once there, immerse yourself in the rich history of this ancient city with a 2-hour guided tour. Explore the impressive ruins, including the towering El Castillo pyramid, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding jungle. As your expert guide shares captivating stories and insights, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the culture and significance of this ancient civilization.

We then have lunch at a local restaurant before an hour drive to Barton Creek Cave. This is about a 50 – minute drive. Once equipped, set off on a peaceful canoe ride through crystal-clear waters, where you’ll glide through a stunning cave system, marveling at the natural rock formations and the tranquil surroundings. It’s the perfect way to connect with the beauty of Belize’s underground wonders.

After your canoe ride, unwind with the option to swim for about 30 minutes, enjoying the refreshing cool waters of the cave. Once you’ve had your fill of adventure, you’ll have time to change into dry clothes before boarding the SUV for a relaxing 50-minute drive back to our office in San Ignacio.
